When the time to wean my son came to pass, I was so eager to offer him the best food that I thought would maximise his growth development. I had so many food options in mind to the point I became confused of which one to start with.
Prior to that time, I have had to ask series of questions regarding what food is best to introduce to my son. At the end, I settled with the combination of grains, millet, Soya and milk(formula). I thought I have found an answer to making my son to maintain his weight or even add a little more. Little did I know the combination of food provided and the intention of offering him more spoonful was the beginning of the unexpected.
Within the first few days of consistently offering the combination of the food, he started to purge. From time to time my son was purging and I didn’t know the root cause of it. It wasn’t teething as most people would believed as the real cause. I tried as much as possible to keep my home and its surroundings as neat as possible. There was no time I don’t disinfect everything within my son’s reach with antiseptic liquid.
So, where could this purging be coming from? I didn’t find out soon but later after my son had lost so much weight that his clothes became loose on him. The sight of his weight became obvious to people who knew him compared to how he was before. But now, I watched my son helpless losing more weight every time he purged. Sadly, all my efforts to make him gain his normal weight was in vain until when he clocked two years. By then his body system has adjusted to making it look like he was going to be slim. It’s possible he is going to remain slim and grow slim but what pained me most was that I didn’t detect what went wrong initially pertaining to the purging most especially. You may not really get it but the fact is that I wasn’t pleased with the outcome because he is my son and i knew how he was before and how he would have benefited more if only i knew what was the right complementary food to give him. I’m sure some of you moms can relate to this. When you know that something is not right with your child’s growth, it becomes a concern to you. People may not really understand your point when you try to explain how it was before.

It is not how much quantity of food you feed your infant that determines a quick growth or weight gain. It is however advisable that you be more conscious and give according to his or her appetite capacity.
Most importantly, offer meals that are rich in nutrition and does not pose any allergy to them.
