The very first time my daughter started children’s class in church she was so excited about it. When I finally dropped her I told her bye and she waved back in return but from behind without looking at my face.
In my mind I was soliloquizing ‘really? So Olive will enjoy being in children’s class? I finally made my way to the auditorium for the service program. For weeks she attended the children’s class without any form of panic. She was always eager to be there and I never hesitated to drop her off. Not until last Sunday I got a report from her caregiver that she was very picky at this time.
Hmm… somebody that has be reciting ‘I want to go to children’s class’ has now become picky for no apparent reason. Thanks to one of the caregiver who pampered her a little and before I knew it she was on her way to join her class mates and the rest was history.
Have you ever wondered why your child suddenly becomes picky? The next thing that dominates your mind is how to raise a picky child or a non picky child. Sometimes little tricks should be adopted to calm your child down. But if your child defiles all odds of not wanting to cooperate, there may be an underlying fear or probably he or she is not ready to flow with others.
My point here is that we try as much as possible to listen to our children and let them know that we are here for them and they can confide in us. Dragging children to school or Sunday school does not justify you as a parent. Give them little time. Find out the reason for their unusual behaviour and deal with it as soon as you can.
You never can tell if your child is trying to tell you that something is wrong if only he or she can express it clearly. This is the more reason you must be mindful and very observant in order not to take any chances.
We live in a world where children are vulnerable to abuse both emotionally and physically. We do not wish to encounter this experience. So let’s brace up by not neglecting the little things that matters most or assume it is no cause for alarm.
Our mission as parents is to be mindful and observant so as not to give room for a story that touches the heart.
