If for instance you are watching a movie that is strictly prohibited for children, and you’re so keen to watch it that you don’t want to miss out, but also not comfortable with their presence in the sitting room, the next thing you do is to trick them to go play with their toys or read in their rooms. I hope you can relate with this👌

Somehow, your children may have managed to watch the onset of the movie before it dawned on you to send them away. It is okay to have acted that way but it’s not okay to have done so without giving them reasons why they mustn’t watch too, especially if they are curious to know. Better still do not watch it when they are around.

One thing that should come to mind is that, visual images are powerful and can lead to imagination in seconds. Curiosity may lead your children to watch that which you don’t want them to watch someday.

Apparently, we are in the 21st century where technological advancement has taken a new turn. Access to the internet and other gadgets is just one click away. We are in the era where so many visual programmes are shown on screen 24/7.

Gone are the days where once it’s midnight, we were bided goodnight with the National Anthem, followed by the multi colours shown on screen until 4pm the next day.

Hence, be conscious of what you expose your children to. The world is so polluted that it’s all out to subtly take advantage of our innocent children. Advise them to watch educative and edifying programmes which will help their knowledge for good.

Draw boundaries on programmes they mustn’t watch with reasons befitting them. If they have to watch cartoons or any other fun related programmes, be mindful of their kinds. Not all of them impact positively on your children. Otherwise, there are consequences they may face, and you being the parent may be held accountable for it.

Remember! “Train up your child in the way he should go, so that when he grows, he will not depart from it.” In addition to the quoted Scripture, is the emphasis that if you don’t teach your children moral values, the world will teach them immoral values.

Nature abhors vacuum. There is no perfect time to start grooming your children while they are still under your care.
